FAQs
DELIVERY:

How do I get my fish?
Mid-Atlantic Stocking brings shipments of fish south once a month from April through October excluding the month of August.  We typically make stops in Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Frederick and Leesburg and are willing to make stops or meet customers in between those locations as well.  Customers can meet us at one of these pickup points to obtain their fish free of charge or for a small fee we can deliver directly to your pond.

How will my fish be packaged?
Small orders are usually packaged in a 16"x16"x12" cardboard box with pure oxygen.  This allows the fish to be safely transported for relatively long distances in almost any vehicle. Larger orders will be delivered by truck directly from one of our facilities.

When will my fish be delivered?
After your order has been placed we will send you a quote with an anticipated delivery date.  The exact time and date will be confirmed the week prior to delivery.

What if I decide to pick my fish up?
If you decide to come to our facility to pick up your fish, we usually recommend that you have them packaged with pure oxygen as was mentioned previously.  This is the most safe method of transporting them.  Another alternative is to bring a cooler or other container filled with pond water but this is only recommended for short distances, usually of one hour or less.

PAYMENTS:
When do I pay for my fish?
A 50 percent down payment will be required 30 days prior to the availability date of your fish which will be noted on your quote.  This down payment ensures that we will hold enough fish to fill your order and is usually mailed in via check or can be hand delivered if it is more convenient for you to do so.  The remaining 50 percent payment will be required upon delivery or pickup.  We will also accept COD for orders that are placed within 30 days of our availability date.

FISH:
Do I need a permit?
Some states require that pond owners obtain a permit in order to stock certain species of fish.  Maryland requires that pond or lake owners obtain a permit to stock anything other than bluegill sunfish, fathead minnows, golden shiners or channel catfish.  All states that allow the importation of grass carp require a permit.  These permits can be obtained from the Downloads page.

How many fish should I stock?
Fish descriptions and stocking recomendations can be found under the Fish Info section of the website.

Do I need to do anything special in preparation for my delivery?
No, we will take care of any preparation that is necessary for your fish to arrive safely.

Should I feed my fish?
Feeding your fish is optional, as long as you have a well established source of food for them in your pond. However, feeding your fish will of course encourage them to grow more quickly.  We do have feed available so please feel free to enquire about it when we call to discuss your order.
